Clove - A Super Herb for Real Health Benefits!

For some years now I’ve been using clove on a regular basis and currently I use it almost daily. I have seen results when I use it for aches, pain, respiratory issues. Clove is like a little powerhouse and it has definitely earned its mark as a staple in my meals and recipes. It’s one of the most nutrient-packed spices you can include in your diet. I love the aroma, I love the taste, I love the flavor, I’ll even just chew on the clove bud which has a spicy, numbing, and aromatic flavor that can be intense with a lingering warm, slightly sweet, and bitter taste.


Clove has a combination of different flavors which is good as it is good to have the different flavors included in our diets. If you enjoy bold spices, then you need to connect with clove and even if bold spices are not your thing find a way to include clove because it is really a beneficial and healing herb.


I 'll share with you how I incorporate clove into my routine. One of my favorite ways to include clove is in my smoothies. It gives my smoothie a boost, add some cinnamon to that and you’re good to go.


In my smoothie I use 3 bananas, 1 cup blueberries, healthy plant-based milk or water, and a few pinches of ground clove. I prefer more satisfying smoothies, not smoothie tasting, so I tend to make a larger amount. If you prefer a smaller quantity, you may try the following recipe.


Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup of frozen berries (I love using blueberries or strawberries)
  • 1 cup of water or almond milk (or any healthy plant-based milk)
  • 2-3 whole cloves (or a pinch of ground cloves)
  • A dash of cinnamon for extra flavor

Add all ingredients and blend.


There you have it—a delicious, antioxidant-packed smoothie with a subtle hint of clove spice. It’s creamy, refreshing, and that little spice from the cloves just makes it taste so unique. I love this combo!


Another way I get the health benefits of clove is by drinking clove tea. It is super simple and perfect for cold mornings or when you need a little boost.


To make this tea, you’ll need:

  • 2 to 3 whole cloves
  • A cup of hot water
  • And a bit of honey or lemon, optional for taste

You can slightly crush the cloves before adding them to release their essential oils. Add clove to hot water and let it steep in hot water for about 10 minutes.

This tea is fragrant, soothing, and perfect for digestion. You can really taste the spicy, warming notes of the cloves, and it’s such a comforting drink, especially in the morning.

It’s so simple yet so effective!


In addition to using clove in teas and smoothies, I also include cloves in my fruit salad. This is perfect for a refreshing and healthy treat with a little extra kick. It’s subtle but really complements the sweetness of the fruit.


For the fruit salad

  • 1 apple, chopped
  • 1 orange, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup of grapes
  • 1/2 a pineapple, chopped
  • A small pinch of ground cloves (you only need about 1/8 teaspoon)

Just a light sprinkle of ground cloves will give the salad a warm, slightly spicy flavor. I also like to add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to brighten it up.


Clove is one of my staples for health. It’s packed with antioxidants, can help improve digestion, and even support your immune system. I like that it has such strong antioxidant properties which help to lower inflammation and that leads to healthier liver and kidneys, which are essential for filtering and removing toxins from the bloodstream. This helps the body maintain a more efficient detoxification process, and this is why it matters to me that I include clove in my health routine.


Cloves can help improve blood circulation, which is crucial for effective detoxification. Improved circulation means that toxins are more effectively transported to the liver and kidneys for processing and elimination.

The warming effect of cloves can stimulate circulation and promote better oxygen and nutrient delivery to the organs involved in detoxification, enhancing their efficiency.
